Custom WordPress Development

WordPress built properly — a theme written for your business rather than a bought template bent into shape, and a site your team can actually edit.

Overview

Most slow WordPress sites are slow by construction.

A premium theme plus a page builder plus fourteen plugins is the usual recipe, and it works right up until you need a change. Then every edit risks the layout, updates break things nobody can explain, and the site loads a megabyte of CSS to render a heading. The problem is not WordPress — it is that the site was assembled rather than built.

We write the theme. Content types and fields are modelled around what you actually publish, so editors fill in labelled fields instead of rebuilding a layout by hand each time. Plugins are used where a plugin is genuinely the right answer and avoided where fifty lines of theme code would do. You get the repository, the hosting stays yours, and nothing about the build requires us to remain involved.

Capabilities

What's included

  • Custom theme developmentBuilt from your design, or one we design with you — no template licence in the stack.
  • Block editor & structured fieldsEditors get labelled fields and reusable blocks, not a blank canvas that breaks the layout.
  • Migration off page buildersElementor, Divi, or WPBakery content rebuilt as native blocks, with URLs preserved.
  • WooCommerceProduct, checkout, and shipping behaviour customised where the plugin defaults do not fit.
  • Headless WordPressWordPress as the editing back end with a React or Next.js front end, when the front end warrants it.
  • Performance & security hardeningAsset budgets, caching strategy, and a locked-down admin surface as part of the build.

How We Work

Our approach

  1. 01

    Audit & scope

What the current site does, what it costs you, and what is worth keeping. Priced before any build commitment.

  2. 02

    Content model

Post types, fields, and templates agreed before code — this is what makes the site editable later.

  3. 03

    Build & review

Working staging site you can click through, updated continuously rather than revealed at the end.

  4. 04

    Launch & handover

Migration, redirects, documentation, and a walkthrough with whoever edits the site.

Common Questions

Questions we get asked

Can you work with our existing WordPress site?

Usually, yes. We start with an audit that tells you honestly whether the existing build is worth extending or whether a rebuild costs less over a year. Both answers happen regularly.

Do we have to move hosting?

No. The hosting account stays yours and we work with what you have, unless the current host is the actual problem — in which case we will say so and explain why.

What happens to our search rankings when we rebuild?

URLs are preserved wherever possible and redirected where not, with the redirect map agreed before launch. Metadata, structured data, and internal linking carry over as part of the build rather than as an afterthought.

Will we be able to edit it ourselves?

That is the point of modelling content properly. Editors get labelled fields and reusable blocks, and we walk your team through it at handover.
