Cyber Insurance Readiness
The controls underwriters now require — MFA everywhere, endpoint detection and response, tested offline backups, patching, training — implemented and evidenced, so the application is answered truthfully and the claim is not denied.
Overview
The application is a contract. An answer you cannot prove is a reason not to pay.
Cyber insurance changed. A few years ago the application asked whether you had antivirus. Now it asks whether multi-factor authentication is enforced on email, remote access and administrative accounts; whether you run endpoint detection and response with monitoring; whether backups are offline or immutable and have been tested; how quickly critical patches are applied; whether staff receive security training; whether privileged accounts are separated. Answer no and the premium rises or cover is refused. Answer yes without being able to prove it, and a claim after a breach can be denied for misrepresentation.
Cyber insurance readiness is the work of making every answer true and evidenced. Most of the controls are things a well-run managed IT program already does, which is why we treat the questionnaire as a checklist for the program rather than a separate project: MFA enforced across the tenant and remote access, MDR with 24/7 analysts, backups with an offline or immutable copy and documented test restores, patching reported monthly, awareness training with completion records, administrative access separated and logged.
We are not brokers and we do not sell insurance. We make you insurable at a sensible premium, read the questionnaire with you so the answers match reality, and give you the evidence to attach. The same evidence serves HIPAA, CMMC and PCI, which is no coincidence.
Capabilities
What's included
- Questionnaire reviewYour insurer's application read line by line against your actual environment before anything is signed.
- MFA everywhere it is asked aboutEmail, remote access, administrative accounts and anything else the application names, enforced not recommended.
- Endpoint detection and response with monitoringThe EDR or MDR requirement met through our managed detection and response service, with evidence.
- Tested offline or immutable backupsA backup copy ransomware cannot reach, and test restores documented on a schedule.
- Patching, training and access evidenceMonthly patch reports, training completion records and privileged-access reviews, exportable for the underwriter.
- Incident response planA written plan naming who does what, which many applications now ask to see.
How It Works
Evidence as a by-product
Patch status, endpoint protection coverage, backup results and device compliance are tracked in NinjaOne, our enterprise management platform, and detection and response evidence comes from our MDR partners. The reports an underwriter asks for are exports from systems that are already running, not documents written for the occasion.

Common Questions
Questions we get asked
What do cyber insurers actually require now?
The common set across carriers: multi-factor authentication on email, remote access and admin accounts; endpoint detection and response, often with 24/7 monitoring; backups that are offline or immutable and tested; timely patching of critical vulnerabilities; security awareness training; email filtering; and an incident response plan. Individual applications vary, which is why we read yours with you rather than working from a generic list.
Can you fill out the insurance application for us?
We answer the technical questions with you and provide the evidence for each, but the application is signed by the business and the statements in it are yours. That is exactly why the answers must be true: we would rather tell you a control is not yet in place and fix it than have you attest to something a claims investigator can disprove.
Will this lower our premium?
Carriers price on the controls they ask about, and businesses with MFA, EDR, tested backups and training generally receive better terms than those without — some carriers will not quote at all without them. We cannot promise a particular premium, because underwriting is the insurer's decision; we can make sure you qualify for the best terms your carrier offers.
We were denied or non-renewed. Can you help?
Usually the reason is one or more missing controls on the application, and usually they are fixable within weeks — MFA enforcement, an MDR deployment, an offline backup copy. We implement them, document them, and you reapply with evidence. If the reason was a prior incident, the same controls are what demonstrate the problem has been addressed.
Does this replace a compliance program like HIPAA or CMMC?
No, but it overlaps heavily. The controls insurers ask about are the same ones every framework asks about, so the work done for insurance readiness counts toward HIPAA, CMMC or PCI, and the evidence is shared. If a formal framework applies to you, we run them together rather than as separate efforts.
