Data & Analytics
Data platforms, warehousing, business intelligence, and governance tooling for organizations turning records into decisions.
How data & analytics is bought
What agencies usually ask for
Data platform requests come from three directions: a records or finance system whose reporting has outgrown spreadsheets, a grant or statutory reporting obligation that needs a repeatable pipeline, and an operations team that wants telemetry on the systems it runs. The corresponding lines are business intelligence (Tableau), a lakehouse or warehouse (Databricks), and observability (Splunk Observability Cloud).
How this category is licensed
Business intelligence is priced per seat, and the seat type matters: people who build reports cost more than people who view them. Warehouse and lakehouse platforms are priced on compute consumed, with storage billed separately by the underlying cloud. Observability is priced by hosts, containers, or data volume. Server editions carry a licence plus support; cloud editions fold hosting into the subscription.
What to have ready for a quote
How many people will author versus consume reports, the data sources involved and their sizes, how often data must refresh, whether you need server or cloud hosting, and any warehouse or cloud commitment you already hold so new consumption can be aligned with it. We price the lines individually, then present them together so the platform, its hosting, and any onboarding work can be compared as one decision.
Typical combinations
Tableau on top of Databricks is a common pairing for agencies building a shared warehouse. Teams already running Splunk for security frequently add Splunk Observability so operational and security data share tooling. Data engineering to connect source systems is quoted separately when it is wanted.
What moves the price most
The ratio of report authors to viewers, the compute tier a warehouse runs on and whether it scales down when idle, how long raw data is retained, and the choice between a server licence you host and a cloud edition the vendor hosts. Connecting a second or third source system is usually services work rather than licence cost, so it appears as its own line.
