Small Business Website Design
A website designed around what your customers need to find and what you need them to do — built on a platform you own, fast on a phone, and easy for your team to update.
Overview
A website is a salesperson who works nights and weekends. Most are hired without a job description.
Ask what a small-business website is for and the honest answer is usually 'we needed one'. So it gets a home page about the company, a services page that lists everything, a contact form, and a stock photo of a handshake. Visitors arrive from a search with a specific question, do not find the answer in the first ten seconds, and leave. The site looks fine and does nothing.
We start with the job description. Who arrives, from where, with what question; what you need them to do next — call, book, request a quote, buy; and what would make them trust you enough to do it. The content is planned around that before any design work, the design is done for a phone first because that is where most of your visitors are, and the build goes onto a platform you own — usually WordPress with a custom theme, sometimes a simpler static site — with the tracking and search foundations in place on launch day.
If you already have a site, the first conversation is whether it needs replacing or fixing. Often the answer is a redesign of the pages that matter rather than starting over, and we will say so when it is.

How We Work
Our approach
- 01
Discovery
What the site is for, who it serves, what already exists and what it costs you. Priced before any design.
- 02
Content and design
Page plan and copy first, then design around the real words — reviewed with you at each step.
- 03
Build
A working staging site you can click through, updated continuously rather than revealed at the end.
- 04
Launch
Redirect map, tracking checked, training, and a first month of adjustments as the data comes in.
What You Get

To Get Started
What we need from you
- Two or three hours of your time across discovery and reviews.
- Access to your domain, hosting and current site, or a decision to set up new ones in your name.
- Your logo and any brand material, however informal.
- A list of the questions customers ask before they buy — your sales calls are full of them.
Common Questions
Questions we get asked
How much does a small business website cost?
It depends on how many pages genuinely need designing and how much content exists, so we price it after a short discovery conversation rather than from a menu. A focused site for a service business with well-defined offers is a different job from an e-commerce store or a multi-location practice. You get a fixed price for the scope before anything is designed, and the scope is written down.
How long does it take?
Weeks rather than months for most small-business sites, with the content usually being the slowest part — not because writing takes long, but because deciding what to say does. We plan the content first so the build does not wait on it, and we tell you the realistic date at the end of discovery.
Should we redesign the site we have or start again?
Often a redesign of the pages that matter — the home page, the key service pages, the contact flow — delivers most of the value for a fraction of the cost, especially if the platform underneath is sound. A full rebuild makes sense when the platform is the problem: a page-builder site nobody can edit, a theme that cannot be made fast, or hosting you do not control. Discovery answers this honestly.
Do we have to use WordPress?
No. WordPress is the right answer for most small businesses because your team can edit it and the ecosystem is huge, and we build it properly — a custom theme, not a page builder. For a smaller site that changes rarely, a static build is faster and cheaper to run. For a store, Shopify. We recommend based on what you need to do with the site, not on what we prefer.
Will you write the words?
Yes, if you want us to, from interviews with you and whatever material you have. Many owners prefer to draft and have us edit, which also works. Either way the content is planned page by page before design, because a site designed around placeholder text ends up fighting the real words when they arrive.
What happens after launch?
The site is yours and you can walk away with it. Most clients keep us for maintenance and monitoring — updates, backups, the fix when a form stops sending — and many add search or local SEO work, since a new site that nobody finds has only done half its job. None of it is required.
