Server Management & Monitoring

Physical and virtual servers — Windows Server, Linux, Hyper-V and VMware hosts — monitored around the clock, patched in agreed windows, backed up and verified, and replaced on a plan rather than after a failure.

All Managed IT

Overview

The server is the one machine everybody depends on and nobody looks at.

Managed server services exist because a server fails differently from a laptop. When a workstation dies, one person loses a morning. When the domain controller, the file server or the host running the practice management system goes down, nobody works. Yet in most small businesses the server sits in a closet, was set up by whoever was around at the time, has never been patched on a schedule, and is backed up by a job nobody has checked in a year.

We manage physical and virtual servers as a service: Windows Server and Linux, Active Directory and domain controllers, file, print and line-of-business application servers, and the Hyper-V or VMware hosts underneath them. Every server reports into our platform around the clock — services, disk, memory, CPU trends, RAID and drive health, the hardware controller — and alerts reach a technician before they reach your staff. Patches are applied in maintenance windows you agree to, backups are verified rather than assumed, and each server's age and support status is tracked so a Windows Server version reaching end of support is a planned replacement, not a surprise.

Capabilities

What's included

  • 24/7 server monitoringServices, disk, memory, CPU and uptime watched continuously on every physical and virtual server, with alerts routed to a technician.
  • Windows Server and Linux administrationActive Directory and domain controllers, file and print, DNS and DHCP, and the line-of-business application servers your software vendors install on.
  • Hyper-V and VMware host monitoringHosts and the virtual machines on them watched together: host resources, VM health, snapshots and datastore space.
  • Patching in maintenance windowsOperating system and firmware updates applied on a schedule agreed with you, staged, with a rollback plan, and documented.
  • Hardware healthRAID arrays, drive SMART data, power supplies and temperatures monitored through iDRAC, iLO or the vendor's controller, so a failing drive is replaced before the second one goes.
  • Backup verification and recovery tie-inServer backup jobs checked daily and test restores scheduled, in step with our backup and disaster recovery service.
  • Capacity and end-of-life planningDisk, memory and CPU trends reported, and every server's age, warranty and operating-system support date tracked so replacement is budgeted, not forced.

How It Works

Delivered through managed IT

Server monitoring, remote access, patching and virtualization monitoring run through NinjaOne, our enterprise management platform, so servers sit in the same console as the workstations and network devices around them. Hardware alerts come from the management controller in the hardware you run, whether that is Dell, HPE or another vendor.

Month-to-month

We earn your business every month. No multi-year lock-in — you stay because the service works, not because a contract traps you.

Common Questions

Questions we get asked

What do managed server services cost, and is it per server?

A flat monthly fee per server, month to month, quoted before any commitment. A virtual machine counts as a server, and the host it runs on is included with the virtual machines on it. The fee covers monitoring, patching, hardware health, backup verification and the planning reports; a new server build or a migration is a project, scoped and priced separately before any work starts.

We only have one server. Is this worth it?

One server usually means one server everything depends on: the domain, the shared drive, the application your business runs on, sometimes the backups too. That is the case where monitoring and a tested backup matter most, because there is no second machine to fall back on. The fee for a single server is small next to a day without it, and the first thing we do is check that the backup actually restores.

Our server runs Windows Server 2012 or 2016. What happens when it goes out of support?

Once Microsoft stops issuing security updates for a version, every new vulnerability stays open, and insurers and compliance frameworks treat an unsupported server as a finding. We track the support date for every server we manage and raise it in the quarterly review well ahead of time, with options: upgrade in place, move the workload to a new server, or move it to the cloud. Until then the server is isolated and watched more closely, not ignored.

Can you manage a server that was set up by someone else, or one hosted in the cloud?

Yes. Most servers we take on were built by a previous provider or a software vendor and are undocumented. We inventory what is on it, document how it is configured, bring patching and monitoring up to standard and tell you what we found. Servers in Azure, AWS or a hosting provider's data center are managed the same way; the agent does not care where the machine sits.

Do you monitor Hyper-V and VMware, or just the Windows servers?

Both the host and the virtual machines on it. A healthy VM on a host with a failing drive or a full datastore is about to become an unhealthy VM, so host resources, storage, snapshots and the hypervisor's own health are watched alongside each guest. If you are reconsidering VMware licensing, we can lay out Hyper-V as an alternative with real numbers for your environment rather than a sales pitch.
